Day 3514: 7th Birthday Letter to Ojaswi

Dear Little ‘Big Girl’ Ojaswi

A very happy 7th birthday to you!

What a year! This has been my favourite year of your life. You are growing up right before my eyes and what a view?

There are so many things I want to tell you and I don’t want to miss a second of loving you.

I love coming home and seeing your smile. But I have to admit, I love leaving home, when you are at home because you start screaming,’wait, wait, wait, wait’ and run to me leaving whatever you are doing for the usual ritual of hugging, and kissing. Oh kisses, we share so many varieties, house kiss, coconut kiss, snake kiss, monkey kiss, piano kiss, lion kiss… Whatever kiss we share, I cherish them all!

You sometimes ask me not to go to work because you have some money saved up in your little safe, but I want you to know that I just don’t go to work so that I can provide for our family but also to make you proud of things that I do.

Creativity blooms everywhere you go. Your bed and bedroom is littered with art supplies and markers and a plethora of papers (your mum might not agree). Your newest obsession is making art collections and you are pretty good at. You, also, have your own taste in fashion and show off your swag in your own way, but whatever you do or however you look, I want you to know that its not he outer beauty that matters the most.

I love how you show off your newly learned ballet moves, gymnastic stunts, and song lyrics. You're independent, confident, and innocent, and I admire that about you

I know you struggle to come out of your comfort, but I want you to know that I believe in you. You are capable of achieving great things, and I will always be here to support and encourage you. Just, remember, daddy was the same at this age, not that he has grown out of it, yet.

The moment I treasure the most is when you snuggle up to me in the morning, while I am still asleep, for "just one minute," which always turns into ten. I love it when you do little things for your brother Oneek. I love it when you dance silly and get hyper with your brother and make faces to your mummy’s silly activities. I just love it how you bring about love, sparkle and brightness in your lives.

You always want everyone to be happy, and while I'm proud of you for caring about others, I want you to know that you deserve to be happy too. You can find a balance between making others happy and pursuing your own happiness. You deserve the world, and you deserve to be the happiest person on earth. I wish I could give that to you. I know one day you will grow up and have to figure these things out on your own. Just remember, you are awesome, you are important, and what you want does matter.

There will be many changes this year, but I'll always remember your hilarious giggle, your wispy hair, and the way you speak matter-of-factly. I love you more than anything, and I'm grateful for you every day. You bring so much joy and happiness to our family, and I hope you always remember how much you are loved.

My Big girl, you’ve changed our lives for the better in every way and we are grateful to God for this front row seat to the love story that is your childhood.

Happy Burthday, My big Girl!

Daddy!

Day 3511: London Marathon 2023

Underprepared, nervous, wet and late but excited, nevertheless; I reach to the starting line of my third London Marathon. I was supposed to run with wave 12 but ended up running in Wave 17 - and my excuse was; Train was delayed by over an hour – which it did.

Nikki was well excited but hated our lack of organisation, as we had not planned where and when we were going to meet adding more to the nervousness, excitement and the thrill.

It was raining when I started, and I was already feeling cold so had to wear a jacket. I had never trained with my jacket on, so nervousness level was sky high, especially Nikki instructed me to not to throw the jacket away if it became too uncomfortable.

I flew past 13 miles, the half marathon and feeling great when I got to the dreaded 18 miles. I was pretty chuffed and excited to see my family at mile 19 which took me about3 hours. My kids looked excited but were disappointed that I wasn’t quick enough as they had to wait for so long. So, I was hell bent to do better for the rest of the distance.

Alas, my performance nosedived after 20 miles and had to push myself hard up until 22 miles. After that I was almost walking. Yes, that bad. Every other muscles in my lower body were aching. At this point, I was proud; I was still vertical and not crawling. The last 4 miles took about an hour, which increased my whole course of time.

I had a playlist of Iron Maiden, upbeat Nepali Music and mostly Bollywood item songs, even that did not help me on the final 4 miles. However, what helped was the cheering of the people. And, finally I complete the London Marathon 2023 - better than the last time. However, the longest and most difficult part had to be the walk after collecting the finisher’s T-shirt to meet your family towards the meeting point.

During the last 4 miles, I repeated asked myself ‘WHY?’. I still do not know why, but when I received that heavy medal after the completion, I was already planning to apply for the next year’s marathon.
