Day 3224 - Calling on an old friend
Lex writes a brilliant piece in the Kathmandu Post.
'Health is a human right, and the UK still has the opportunity—just—to make amends and end on the right side of this friendship and our shared history. Enough with the frippery and fanfare. The world is watching alongside our Nepali friends; we need to at least end this story well.'
I couldn't agree more.

Retired Gurkha soldiers succumb to Covid as Nepal’s plea for vaccines goes unanswered.

Day 3221: Nepal Needs urgent help now!
Its sad to see no action being taken to help Nepal in this dire crisis.
Santosh Khaderi, who lives in Qatar, has uncovered archival material about Bir Shumshere Rana gifting 14 gold coins to Queen Victoria, even Jang Bahadur, who was the first royalty from the Subcontinent to visit Britain in 1850, showered expensive presents on Queen Victoria. Later, Dev Shumshere contributed Rs15,000 to Queen Victoria’s Memorial Fund.
“Nepal was a poor country, but it is shocking to see how generous its Rana rulers were in supporting the British,” Khaderi says. “They were giving away what was essentially taxes paid by poor Nepalis in the name of diplomacy. It is time for Britain to return the favour.”
Former United Nations Under Secretary-General and Nepali diplomat Gyan Chandra Acharya told Nepali Times, “I don’t see a possibility of Nepal getting vaccines from India now, but the West is hoarding more vaccines than it needs. What is stopping them from sending the urgently needed second doses to Nepal?”

Day 3220: IhÄ« Vidhi – Initiation of young girls
Ihī Vidhi is one of the Daśakarma. The initiation takes place before the girls reach the age of puberty. This is also to prepare the girls of their natural physical changes during the adolescence.
After missing out last year due to COVID19 pandemic PASA PUCHAH GUTHI, UK was able to resume its annual Ihī ceremony this year; maintaining social distancing and taking all the safety measures required to prevent spreading infection of Corona Virus.
There was participation of 8 girls only, number limited by the restriction. The number of parents and guardians were also reduced to only 2 per child to meet the limit of size of gathering to only 30 people.
It was a very successful event, where parents and the girls enjoyed the day. The less number of people made sense and the event felt very organised; begging the question if the crowded event was even necessary.
However, I did miss all the hustle and bustle, the organised chaos of such event.
We intend to organise similar event with Keyta puja and Ihī again in December this year. If you know someone who might be interested please get in touch.
Here are few pictures of today’s ceremony!
Great appreciation to Keshab Shrestha and Pasa Pucha Guthi UK, Aldershot!

I have recently launched a personal website called 'Train of thoughts'
'Train of Thoughts' is my personal blog where I shall share reflect on my experiences, relearn from the research - recollect and relive over and over again.
First up, 'MBA: Why and where?'
I was in a huge dilemma, while choosing the University for my MBA. Its quite a daunting task and mammoth of sacrifice, not only in terms of time and money, but also the commitment, opportunities and all the hard work that is.
I hope this article helps all the aspiring MBA candidates.
Feedback, comments and criticism are welcome.

Day 3216: Mini Break to Norwich
This year 2021 feels still new, even in June. And so much hope of things turning better by the day.
It has been difficult two years for all of us. My family definitely needed a break(from me) after seeing me in the house literally 24/7 - doing various things that may not bring any results.
So, to celebrate a birthday and all the happiness we have been able to share, we set out on a staycation to Norfolk Broads, Norwich. (Not that my family got any break from me)
Norfolk Broads is about 3 hours drive from West London. It’s a beautiful network of rivers and lakes nearby a sea. There were various activities to choose from beaches to boating, walks to animal attractions and theme parks. Our selection of activities were restricted by the weather.
We hired a boat for half a day. Oneek mastered driving boat in 15 minutes and got bored after crashing it under the bridge. After boating, We headed towards the zoo where Nikki wanted to see the Safari, only to realise there as no jeep taking us around.
Second day, we spent in theme park. It was windy and cold so there were not many people. Kids could enjoy the rides without waiting much. Some of them they could even go twice. From the activities we chose, it will be difficult to tell whose birthday we were celebrating.
The weather was bit rubbish but we made the most of what we have.
I share few pictures here.

Day 3215 : Isolation Kits
From the donation we have received for Pasa Puchah Guthi, UM, we also helped by distributing 200 isolation kits via HAPSA.
Each isolation kits cost about $20 kits.
‘A contribution of NRs. 482,000/- i.e. £3000 was made towards Home Isolation Kits (HIK) Project. With this, HAPSA have been able to distribute HIK to 22 municipalities so far, and a total of 1,516 households.’
PASA PUCHAH GUTHI, UK would like to thank all the generous Donors for their unconditional support.

Day 3212: Peaceful Demonstration
After trying out all the avenues, we had to take the streets to get help to Nepal from the UK. Nearly 300 passionate people participated in the demonstration where amongst other agendas, we made the biggest noise for ‘Vaccines for Nepal’ with the Gurkha’s in the UK.
We gathered at White Hall under Gurkha Statue, and then made our way towards Parliament House.
I share some of the pictures and videos of the day.
I have borrowed few pictures of Stanley Kaye. Thank you!

Day 3200: ‘Nepal’ Variant
‘Todays Daily Mail front page!
‘Nepal Variant and threat to the Holidays’ - what about the lives in Nepal??? This is such poor, lazy and hurting front page.
Surprised to read that it's even called Nepal variant. With the way that Westerners are so unhealthily OBSESSED with Everest, I would've thought it would be called the EVEREST VARIANT.
Good to see medical supplies coming from different countries but maybe the focus should be on ensuring countries like Nepal, that are experiencing rapid rate of transmission to get VACCINES AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.
If rich countries like UK do not step up and support with vaccine (not that Covax stuff that they keep repeating) then I guess *holidays* will continue to be threatened.’
Nothing substantial has been done to help manage COVID19 from the UK. It has used ‘Gurkha’ and ‘Everest’ lazily when it suited and needed them, but when the true help is required nothing has been done.
We have been working tirelessly to get some attention on this COVID crisis in Nepal but nothing we have done seem to have work, however the threat to holiday destination has worked a treat fo British media too. Such shame.
Nepal needs help now! Waiting for COVAX to support countries like Nepal is not going to help as they don’t have vaccines. This has to be done bilaterally - this is a grave humanitarian crisis and it needs to be done now!
