Social Nirvana: Spending a quality time with these scholars of life from different walks of life.
The last time we met was just before the Christmas in 2019. During the pandemic and in between its restriction we tried several times to arrange the get together. Due to several reasons it just didn’t materialise.
Finally after over 18 months we have had chance to catch up. The experience is always such great that no matter what you have done earlier in the day, no matter what you have been through; this companies always manages to bring so much happiness and energy.
This also shows that age is just a number; it’s all connected by heart. And we bond and laugh no matter who the joke is on.

Day 3278 - Sujan didn't want to go on holiday this year.
A five years old yearly ritual has continued this year too. This year we headed to Wales (again).
--
After last year’s experience, few changes were to be made, but restrictions due to the COVID19 pandemic created uncertainties for all of us. Anish who was adamant that he won’t be able to go on holiday this year was ready to go on holiday. Unfortunately, Sujan created his own restrictions and uncertainties. All the boys tried to convince Sujan, Reema, and his family to make arrangements to come to the holiday. Reema almost agreed but Sujan didn’t want to go on holiday, this year
Undeterred, Anish took the lead and started searching for holiday venues/hotels even with the uncertainties with the covid pandemic. Finally, we were able to book a 5-bedroom Barn-house for a shortened holiday of 4 nights in Wales. A picture of 3 helicopters parked outside the house did make the venue more appealing. Inspired by parked helicopters, Dipak suggested exploring traveling by helicopter. While the idea of traveling by helicopters seemed glamorous the price to be paid wasn’t. So, we decided to take the more orthodox route via car still, Sujan didn’t want to go on holiday, this year.
Preparation meetings were crucial for this biggest project of the West London Family (WLF). Hence, bonfire night at Sanjeev’s, breakfast at Dipak’s, champagne breakfast at Rishav’s and grilled fish dinner at mine started. At least one of us couldn’t make it to all the meetings but one person never missed a meeting and that was…Sujan. Even though, he attended all the prep meetings Sujan didn’t want to go on holiday this year.
After failing to convince Sujan in every meeting, we settled for him agreeing to Reema and kids would go on holiday and cost of the holiday was to be divided into six families but still, Sujan didn’t want to go on holiday, this year.
Drawing on the experiences of last year, we decided to scrap the ladies' breakfast team and will be pampered for the (drama) queens they are. The menu was finalized; Nikki and I wanted to revive the magic of Newah Bhoye, Dipak and Meghna stepped up for the challenge of the MoMo party, Sanjeev wanted to show off his Aloo Tikki chat and weirdly Sujan suggested Chatpate even when Sujan didn’t want to go on holiday, this year.
I thought going for a one-night camping a day before the actual holiday would break my camping virginity and extend the holiday. Unfortunately, not everybody could arrange the day and the idea never saw the light of the day. However, miraculously, Sujan managed to slip out of his commitments suddenly and was ready to go camping a night before our actual holiday. Alas, no one else could make time, but one person enjoyed one extra day of the holiday, Sujan. Even when, all the while Sujan didn’t want to go on holiday, this year.
Nevertheless, we had an excellent holiday with all the 6 families of the West London Family. Annoyed as we might, I would hate to imagine our holiday without Sujan (or any other west London family).
Some facts might have been exaggerated for entertainment value but one fact that remains unaltered is Sujan didn’t want to go on holiday this year.
100 Images are shared to relive these moments over and over again. I know it’s a bit much, but these don’t show the unlimited fun and memories we created.
More love and happiness to the West London Family!!!

Day 3271 - End of hunger strike (For now)
A hunger strike outside Downing Street to protest against Gurkhas' unequal pensions has ended after the government agreed to further talks after 13 days of protest.
The hunger strike had ended after both governments agreed to talks.
Ministry of Defence officials plans to meet Nepali ambassador for the UK and the group next month on 8 September 2021.
Leo Docherty, Minister for Veterans and HE Lok Darshan Regmi, Ambassador of Nepal to the UK were present to end the protest.
It will be great achievement for three people who went on hunger strike for 13 days if this brings equality to the Gurkhas.

Day 3269: Supporting Gurkhas in the UK
The diplomatic relationship of Nepal and the UK is of over 208 years. More than 200,000 Gurkhas fought in the two world wars, and in the past 50 years they have served in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Borneo, Cyprus, the Falklands, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan. (Source: BBC).
Since 1947, the Gurkhas have fought for the British Army all over the world, receiving 13 Victoria Crosses between them. During the two world wars 43,000 Gurkha men lost their lives. And yet, they are treated unfairly by the British Government.
Ex- Gurkhas, Gyan Raj Rai, 63, Dhan Gurung, 59, and Gurkha widow Pushpa Rana Ghale, 59 began their fight against this disparity with a hunger strike on 7 August 2021.
Gyan Raj Rai, who had travelled from Reading for the protest, says he followed his uncles to join the British Army aged 17.
"During service we were given a very small amount of salary compared to our British counterparts," he says.
"And after our service, the pension was very low. My pension was only £47 a month, where a British veteran used to get over £800 a month."
He says his lump sum on leaving the army was £3,000 compared to that of a British veteran who received between £60,000 and £70,000.
He says today he receives a monthly pension of £350 compared to British ex-soldiers of the same rank who receive £1,200 to £1,300.
We demand equality for our Gurkha Soldiers. Its ‘better to die than be a coward.’
To show support we participated in the demonstration with Kaal Bhairav, Sushil Prajapati and the family.
