Day 3949: Newah Muna
Newah Muna is a celebration of unity among Newars in the UK. Every two years, all six branches of Pasa Puchah Guthi UK come together to honor and celebrate Newah culture.
Each time, a different branch hosts Newah Muna, choosing a specific theme for the event. In the past, we've celebrated themes like Yenyaa (Indra Jatra) and Biskaa Jatra.
This year, it's the turn of the Pasa Puchah Guthi UK Reading branch, and we will be celebrating the renowned Kha: Jatra of Yala. For the first time ever, Kha: Jatra will be celebrated in the UK, featuring four Kha from four branches: London, South-East London, Reading, and Aldershot.
Join us for this historic Ta: Newah Muna on Saturday, 14 September 2024.

I wish I were a cloud, unbound by restrictions, free to take any shape and move wherever the wind might carry me. I would drift wherever I please, soaring when the skies call, and descending when the earth beckons. I would transform effortlessly, embracing change with each passing breeze.
Over the ocean of clouds, we enjoy serene view from Nagarkot.

Day 3956: Celebration of Death
Death is exclusively celebrated during the Chaturmas period in the Kathmandu Valley, a four-month span marked by significant death-related rituals and festivals like Gaijatra and Indrajatra. These festivals serve as communal ways to honor and cope with death, blending mourning with humor and public expression.
A key tradition during Chaturmas is Saa Yaa or Saa Paaru (Gaijatra), the "Festival of Cows," where families lead cows or children dressed as cows in a procession, symbolizing the guidance of the deceased’s soul to the afterlife. Another notable ritual is the creation of Taha Macha, a bamboo structure representing the deceased, paraded through the streets to ensure a smooth journey to the afterlife. These practices transform death into a shared experience of healing and reflection, emphasizing the continuity of life and community bonds.
This tradition has also been carried beyond Nepal, in London, with the Pasa Puchah Guthi, UK initiating a ritual of celebrating Saa Paaru during the annual festival of Nepali Mela. In this event, Taha Macha, a practice borrowed from Bhaktapur, is constructed in memory of the deceased and paraded around the Mela. This year, the Nepali Mela is being held on Sunday, 25 August 2024, at Kempton Park, TW16 5AQ.
If you are interested in participating, please contact Sushil Prajapati, Prajesh Shrestha, Shrestha Madhav Rajani Shrestha, Sudhanshu Malla or any other member of Pasa Puchah Guthi, UK.

Day 3954 - London Lakhey Book Launch
‘London Lakhey’ has finally come to life. This story is more than just words on paper—it's a reflection of an immigrant’s journey. I’ve lived it, faced its challenges, and emerged stronger.
I feel fortunate and privileged to have such an incredible group of people around me, who have always made me feel ‘not alone.’ Pasa Puchah Guthi, UK definitely reserves a special place in my heart.
This story is dedicated to all immigrants who have left their countries for various reasons, faced adversity, and emerged as Lakheys in their own unique ways.
This story had been brewing in my mind for several years, but it wasn’t until two years ago that I could finally bring it together. Asmita skillfully edited the first draft, and Sanz brought the narrative to life with stunning illustrations.
The book is finally out.
While preparing for the ‘Book Launch’ in the sweltering Kathmandu heat, there were many moments when I questioned whether all the effort was necessary. After all, it’s just a children’s book, right? But after the successful launch, I realized that the event had given the book life. It felt as though the ceremony had turned a simple statue into a god. In Nepal, we have a beautiful term for this: ‘Pran Pratishthapan,’ which refers to the ritual of instilling life into an idol or statue, transforming it into a divine entity. That is how the book launch felt—like a sacred moment that breathed life into something that was once only an idea, a creation of the mind and heart.
I feel completely rejuvenated.
This extraordinary feeling is the result of so much effort and support behind the scenes—from my family. My wife, Nikki Shakya, my son, Oneek, my daughter, Ojaswi, my mum, Rita Devi Singh, and my in-laws, Bhupendra Man Shakya and Annapurna Shakya. To all of them, I am deeply grateful.
